January 3, 2019, it is the last day of three days celebrating New Year. I visited the Tsumatsu-hime Shrine near the Kire station on the Kishigawa line.
Luckily I met this shrine's priest Shohei Nakatani's mother, and I was able to talk with her.

The main deity of this shrine is Tsumatsu-hime-no Mikoto. Itakeru-no Mikoto and Ohyatsu-hime-no Mikoto are enshrined as the side deitys. In the precincts there are Kiretsu-hime Shrine and Takashima-inari Shrine and Mioya-sha(god of village).

It is written in "Kinokuni-shinmei-cho" that this shrine 's main deity was Kiretsu-hime-no Mikoto. In old days it is thought that Kiretsu-hime was worshiped here. It is assumed that this goddess was Shaman(shrine maiden).
In ancient times, this area was divided to east and west. In the west area they worshiped Kiretsu-hime, and in the eastern area they worshiped Tsumatsu-hime.
Both places have economic disparity, and there is conflicts often occur with each other. The authority at that time worshiped two goddesses together and became Tsumatsu-hime Shrine.

Tsumatsu-hime is a goddess of trees and it also means the pillar of squere material used for woody building. It was worshiped as a god of building, the word"tsuma" is the origin of the word "Kiritsuma-tukuri".
In the old age, There were many shrine halls and it had wide precinct, shrine's halls and old books were burnt in the Tensho era, and the shrine was devastated. The current collecsion has become one tenth of the old collecsion.

Seven thousand years ago the sea had spread to Narukami, Negi, in Wakayama city and here in Kire. Since Jomon age people lived by getting marine products. People have held religious service, and handed down to the present age. (Michi.A)
